Hariprasad - Never give up

30-Dec-2008

Later after talking to Haripriya about the task, I spoke to Hariprasad. He was suspicious on looking at the lengthy call. He asked me "What are you going to to Haripriya?". I asked him why do you ask this. He said "No tell me, what have you planned to get Haripriya?". He had probably thought that I am planning to get her some toys. I told him, "No, I am not getting her anything".

He kept silent for a moment and then said, "Thats fine, get me toys", then a pause, and continued "many toys". I smiled and said, "sure". :)

Hariprasad,
Sure, you will get it. :)

Letter from Haripriya to Amamma - Planned

30-Dec-2008

I called up home. As usual I talked for a while and then I realised that Haripriya and Hariprasad were in my home, may be for their half-yearly holidays. I talked to both Haripriya and Hariprasad and listened to their tiny tiny sweet talks.

I asked Harirpriya, what she is doing, she replied "talking to you on phone". Aah, welcome to the club :) I talked a while to Hariprasad later, he was more particular on the toys I would get him.

Haripriya had asked me for a teddy bear. Her specifications were very clear. She said she needs a teddy bear sitting and it had to be very small and pink in color. I really got to check for this :)
Later, I tried explaining Harirpriya about e-mail. Looks like e-mail is very high funda for her. So, I explained about Posts. She wasn't aware of postbox, postman as well. Then, I explained her way she got her teddy bear for birthday. She understood that immediately. So, now I gave her an assignment.

I asked her to take a piece of paper and asked her to write all stuff she knows. I asked her if she knows to draw. She said yes and she explained all what she knows to draw. Here is what she said she can draw
1) Fishes in water
2) Mountains and sunrise in between the mountains
3) House

So, I asked her to write and draw all possible things in a paper. I gave her some tips on how to write. I said her that you can write, "Hi amamma, how are you? How is thatha? I am good girl. Haripriya is a good boy. Daddy and mummy are good". I kept going. She interrupted me asking, "Should I also write or is it ok to draw?" Looks like this to too much for her. So I asked her to draw if she dont know to write. She then asked me how to post. I said, "dont worry, you better write it and give it your mom, and ask her to post to amamma". She said ok.

I also said this has to be secret and no one must know. She asked me "Like a suspense?" :). I said yes, like a suspense. I said, dont say it to anyone. Tell only to your mom and tell your mom not to say this to amamma when they talk on phone. I also said, after this call, amamma will ask you what did maama say? She immediately said, "I will say maama said nothing" :). I said, "no no, tell amamma that its a suspense, and I will not say".

She had many doubts.
1) She asked how many letters should she send. I said only one now.
2) Should my dad know this? I said its ok to tell your dad, but ask him not to tell to anyone
3) Should Hariprasad know this? I said no, dont tell him, he may tell it to amamma.

She then said, once you come here, we both will do like this. I smiled and said, sure. :)
I also told her that if she can do it secretly without telling her amamma, she will get a gift.

Haripriya,
No matter what is the result, no matter if the secret is broken, if you send a letter, I've decided to gift you :)

Double Promotion

22-Dec-2008

I called home today. As usual, I asked about everyone including the kids. My mom told me that Anish skipped crawling and he started sitting. Also, he is trying to stand with some support and probably wants to walk.

Well done Anish,

Goyyaka

Vadivelu made the word 'Goyyale'. Not sure when. But then, how Haripriya learnt this is as 'Goyyaka', the only thing she had heard before.

Haripriya,
This is the short story on how you are being called as 'Goyyaka'

Mr. Perfect

30-Nov-2008

Got an SMS from Sujji asking me to call her back, as she was in my home for a visit. After talking with her for sometime, I asked about Hariprasad. Anu once requested me to ask Sujji about how perfect Hariprasad is. So this is what Sujji told me about Hariprasad.
1) He comes to home from school and changes his dress immediately.
2) He completes his homework once he changes his school uniform.
3) Its a normal behavior that mom sits next to the kid and teaches the kid during the exams. But in case of Hariprasad, he asks he makes his mom sit and teach him. He says 'amma, amma, idhi maathram okka saari chepiche ma', meaning 'mom, teach me this one alone once'. He ensures that he is prepared to his exam thoroughly, and he is only 5 yrs old now. :)
4) He completes his homework and he runs to singing class. Actually only Haripriya was sent to singing classes. But he felt that 'Why Haripriya alone, why not me' and he also runs to singing classes along with HariPriya. He wants to learn singing too.

Mr.Perfect,
Good going :)

Vedi? Vedi? Jillaa?

Haripriya,

This is the time, you tried making some sentences.

Years back, when I was a kid, may be when I was 10 years old, I was traveling to some place in bus with my parents. The bus stopped near hotel where people were taking their coffee. There was one fellow who made some nasty noise while drinking the coffee with the froth. Since then I started to avoid the froth in the coffee. So its my natural behavior to blow away the froth and drink the coffee.

I had a coffee in my hands and you were sitting next to me. The coffee in my hands indeed had froth and I blew it. Looking at me blowing the froth away, you thought that the coffee is hot. You asked "Vedi? Vedi?" meaning "Is it hot?". Well you couldn't make the sentence right, but the expressions on your face made me realize that it is a question. I understood why you asked me this, and I smiled and replied you "Ledu ra", meaning "No buddy". Your spontaneously replied "Jilla?", meaning "Is it cold?"

That was interesting to me. You started learning meanings and opposites. Cool aren't you?

Learning

Haripriya,

When this happend, you were months old. Your eyes started following colours and people. I used to be with you almost every minute, when I am at home. Most of the time, I remember, I used to lie next to you tapping your little tummy for two extreme reasons. One, to make you sleep when your are awake, two, to wake you when you are in sleep :). Just to entertain myself with you.

I remember telling you a couple of chandamaama stories as well. I knew that you will not understand, but that never mattered to me. I had to repeat the same old stories many times. I also remember asking you some questions on the story. Yeah, this is kinda revision to you. Even after knowing the fact that you will not answer to my questions, I kept asking you some silly questions on the story that I tell. One such example is "What did the crow do when the fox asked to sing?" When I ask you some question, I used to nod my head up and down.

This one is pretty much an interesting bit. Though you didn't undestand that I am asking you a question, you started following me nodding my head. You probably thought that I am passing on some message to you.

Later, one day Sujji chinamma was pampering you, and for some reason I came near you and I nodded my head. You smiled, believe me. Your mom found this and told me and Sujji chinamma about this. We tried this again and again many times. Sujji chinamma nodded her head, you had no response, when I nodded, you smiled or rather laughed aloud. We repeated this as many as 10 to 20 times and every time, you laughed only I nodded my head.

This is perhaps your first learning.

Well the reason for another new post on the same day is to talk something about Hariprasad too :)

Hariprasad has got second place in Fancy Dress competition. The topic is "Other state". And Hariprasad had gone with a Kurta, a dhoti in Andra-ite style and a naamam. :) The dialogue is
"Naa peru Hariprasad. Naa ooru Andra Pradesh. Naa baasha telugu. Desa bhasalandu telugu lessa"
This means,
"My name is Hariprasad. I am from Andra Pradesh. My mother tongue is telugu. Telugu is the best language among all the languages in our Nation"

Another interesting thing that came out today while talking to Anu about what the kids are going to study in future. Anu said that the choice is totally theirs. They can decide what they wish to become. She added a note on Hariprasad, in deed. Apparently, Suji has told Anu that Hariprasad is fit to become a doctor. The reason what Anu gave is very sweet.

Hariprasad, once he reaches home, he immediately changes his dress, starts with his homework, reads all stuff taught that day and looks like he is Mr.Perfect. Anu said that he is so clean at his activities and he must be a suitable candidate for doing medicine. Anu has asked me to talk to Suji to get more information on this. Yeah got to talk to Suji to get more information on Mr.Perfect.

Hariprasad, wish you all the best to become our family doctor. :)

Today is Anu's b'day. I called her to wish her for her b'day. Hariprasad attended the call. Nice that he recognised my voice :).

Later after wishing my sister, she said Haripriya is very angry on me calling her goyyaka. She has told her mom (Anu) "endhuku ma, nannu goyyaka ani cheppinaadu?" meaning "why did he called me as goyyakka". Anu also told me that Haripriya is very angry on me :). Haripriya said Anu that, "aa pedha goyyaka phone number ee ma", meaning "give me the phone number of that big goyyaka", well that big goyyaka is me. :)

Interesting part in this call is what Haripriya has told Anu about the gift, her grandparents had given. My parents [Haripriya's grandparents] had given her a cycle. Ofcourse for both the kids. But then, some time back Suji had told Haripriya that she will get her a cycle. Now Haripriya is confused, as to which cycle she has to take. Her wise decision is, she will use the cycle her grandparents had got her and once Suji gets them another cycle, she will hand over the old cycle to Hariprasad and get the new one. Wise isn't she? :)

The other interesting part that Anu told me is, Haripriya has asked for a scooty when she gets into 5th std. Note that she is only 7 years now. After a couple of minutes, she changed her decision and said that she is happy to get a scooty when she is in 6th std. Later something had struck her mind and said that it is ok to get the scooty when she is in 7th std. The best part is what she said after this. She has asked for a car when she joins her 11th std.

Haripriya used to join Suji when she goes to her driving classes. So Haripriya is aware of first gear, second gear concepts. She has told Anu that she can drive the car even today, note she is 7 yrs old. :)

PS: She has started cycling using the balancing wheels inside her house.

Haripriya got that teddy bear today. I called her some time back and she said, "Nenu neeku goyyaka-na?" meaning "Am I a 'goyyaka' to you?" I smiled and said, "Happy Birthday", she said "Thanks" :) Cute

Later when I spoke to Anu, she said Haripriya kept murmering "nannu endhuku goyyaka ani cheppinaadu?", meaning "Why did he [myself] called me as goyyaka"

Haripriya, you must have forgot the reason for this. I will let you know about this soon.

I switched off my mobile early today and came to office. I know that many from India will call me to wish. Oh yeah today is my b'day. And I don't want others to spend money making ISD calls to wish for my bday. Life without mobile is the best. It is very calm. Excellent feeling, I must say. No calls, nothing. I feel like I am back to stone age. Interesting is it?

I dont have access to my gmail account from office. All what I can do check the snap shot of my top 10 mails using igoogle. The snap shot of my gmail inbox includes the 'From Name', 'Subject' and few words of the first line of the mail.

Later in the evening, when I check my gmail using igoogle, I found a mail from Shrisudan. He is the only person in chennai, my dad contacts for submitting my LIC bills to my office. So my dad has his number. The snap shot said 'Call your Brother in Law'. I was not sure why. So I switched on my mobile and accessed gmail.com to read the whole mail. The mail said, my Brother in Law has tried calling me many times and he couldn't reach. So I called him back.

Me - Hello baava Kiran here
He - Hai Kiran, happy birthday
Me - Thanks baava.
He - (Smiles) I got a baby boy
Me - (OMG) Oh... congrats baava. (I couldnt control my happiness)
He - thanks, talk to Suji
Me - Sure
Sujji - Hi Kiran, happy b'day
Me - thanks Sujji, Congrats you too

I heard Anish saying 'Hi maama'
I replied 'Welcome buddy'

What could be a better gift on my b'day?

Morning
When we know the hype of Baba, Aalavanthaan and many more succumbed to failure, here came the real hero without any hype.

I am in office working, or I should say pretending to be working. I am waiting for a call from my parents or my bava of course for the obvious reason. I don't have a mobile and the only way for someone to contact me will be through the phone in my office.

8:15 in the morning
Phone rang, and I picked the call.

9:30 in the morning; In the hospital
Well here is the description.
Head is the biggest in him.
He requires a hair cut soon. :)
Eyes cloned from his sister. I could see biggy biggy eyes.

Me - Hi
He - Hi maama, how are you? I am fine, but for crowd. When will I be moved to our home? Can you arrange a proper commute to home from here? Climate is also very hot now isn't it? By the way, what were you doing so long. Why dont you come early? Heard a lot about HariPriya, where is she?

Subham
Let me stop this here.

And thats he.

6-Nov-2001
Morning at 6:30
Today, I have my 7th semester exams. But well who cared? Whats more interesting is the first kid that our family is expecting. Anu, my sister is taken into an auto to be admitted in the hospital for her delivery.

We three, [me and my two sisters] had a habit of wishing each other when we leave for exams. Well, this was from our child hood. The quotes were pretty simple-
"Anu, tata, best of luck", to Anu
"Sujji, tata, best of luck", to Sujji, my other sister
"Kiran, tata, best of luck", ofcouse to me.
We started this stuff with some interest and then eventually, it became a reflexive action. More like blinking our eyes.

Anu did wished me "Kiran, tata, best of luck", oh yeah for my exams. But who cared? It must be more of an reflexive action. I replied her back, "Anu, tata, best of luck". But yeah this had a meaning, for the very first time.

Tonight, at hospital
I did my exams with no interest and then flew to the hospital in the night. Luckily I have no exams tomorrow, so I decided to stay in the hospital. Nurse told us that only one person can stay with the patient. My amamma [amma's amma. mom's mom] was asked to stay with my sister. Yeah as we all know, every family will have an experienced lady. When I use the term 'experience', I really mean it. Experienced in anything and everything. They are the best of all domains.

My amamma, and my parents thought that another person along with amamma would be important. Masculine support. You heard it? Yeah, they required a support from a manly, strong, brave male. Ahem. I am the only person standing here, praying that I will be asked to stay. Well, to make this story more interesting, lets assume that I qualify those terms and conditions :). Yes, I am asked to stay with my amamma, not that I qualify, but the only person available tonight is me. The challenge is that I must not sleep in the room where my sister and my amamma are. I have no place to be here tonight. Also, I must not be caught my the doctors roaming. I started searching for a better place to spend the night. I got into an escalator to come down to ground floor

7-Nov-2001
May be 5 in the morning.
I again pressed the G button to get to the ground floor. Once the escalator reached ground floor, I again pressed 4 to go the 4th floor. Then again G to ground floor. Probably the count must have reached more than 1000. I spent the night in escalator moving between different floors.

May be at 8 in the morning.
Once my parents are in, I am asked to go home to take some rest. Wait. :) Do you think I will do what my parents asked me to? Nah. I am back to hospital again.

At around 5 in the evening.
We all know that time is creeping and we are expecting the new comer any time now. Amma asked me to go to a shop near by to get some dress for the new comer.

Later tonight, over 11.
She came out with wide open eyes. Her eyes were filled with the black cornea. And she was wrapped into the newly stitched dress. Her first dress was not purchased. Rather stitched by me.
